Snapchat app is a funky mobile application whose feature to self-destruct videos and pictures within seconds of sending has attracted 156 million users globally.
Snapchat started in 2011. The service’s popularity keeps growing because of its varied and fun-to-use apps.

Spectacles launched online on 20th February, 2017.
The Snapchat app was created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown.
Brown settled for $157.5 million in 2014 when he parted ways with his friends who credited him as one of Snapchat’s original authors.

Over the years it has evolved as a mix of public content and private messaging, but also includes coverage of live sport and music events and content from publishers like the Food Network and ESPN.
Basically, there are three areas of information collected by Snapchat.
- Info you choose to share
- Stuff about how you use their services
- Info the company obtains from third parties
You can access and update your basic account information by visiting the app’s Settings page.

Mobile, android, iPhones and smartphones
Snapchat is a mobile app and is available on both Android and iOS systems.
The app needs very little storage space, so don’t stress about it gobbling your device’s capacity.
For Androids you will need a minimum size of 5.2MB and iOS requires 8.3MB.
Security and privacy issues
Your account is automatically set to “friends-only” by default. So, in other words, only people you have added as friends, and who have added you back, can send or view your snaps.
Don’t change your settings to “everyone” because then you open your account to viewing by anyone with a Snapchat account.
Cool stuff to do
Geofilters allows Snapchatters to use special graph overlays within specified geographical locations such as cities and events.
The fun Bitmoji app lets users design their own stickers of personalized cartoon avatars.
How does Snapchat make money?
Snapchat’s main source of income is the sale of advertisements and the company expects to reach a $1 billion turnover in 2017.
Take-aways about Snapchat App
Based at Ocean Front Walk in trendy Venice, California, Snapchat is worth $20 billion.
Its first paid advertisement was a 20-second movie trailer clip from the horror film, Ouija, screened in October, 2014.
Advertising appears on Snapchat’s Discover feature. It is estimated that up to a million users see the ads daily and, at 10 to 15 cents per view, this adds up to a hefty revenue chunk.
Keep your login details safe
Hacking is a way of cyber-life, so keeping your login details safe cannot be over-emphasized.
Create a unique and strong password known only to you.
Never use the same password for more than one site and change your password regularly by using the Settings app.
