When you enter your Yahoo login details, you are signing in to a massive part of internet history.

Yahoo was started in 1994 by Jerry Yang and David Filo. At the time they were studying at Stanford University for their PhD.

When they first presented it to the world, the website went by the name ‘Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web’.

They had created a directory to other websites to make it easier for users to find what they were looking for. Realizing they needed a name that was less of a mouthful, and less geeky, the team settled for ‘Yahoo’.

Today Yahoo is a leading search engine and all-round provider of internet services. It is not as big as Google by any means, but it has a massive number of loyal users.

As you can see, Yahoo makes provision for every scenario — if you have lost your password or your Yahoo email address or both. Just keep following the prompts and you will be helped.

If you had submitted a mobile number for recovery purposes at signup, the Password Helper would send you a verification code as a text message.

If you had given an alternative email, a reactivation link would be sent to that inbox. Click it and follow the instructions provided.

Why You Have to Sign Up

You can still access Yahoo without being a registered user. You will be able to read the news and watch the video, even get your local weather. However, you will be unable to use the Yahoo email service.

How to Sign Up at Yahoo

To get started on Yahoo you need to type www.yahoo.com in your web browser. This will bring the home page. Unfortunately, there is no Sign Up button there. Just click the Sign In button (see above) and you will be taken to a page that will ask if you want to sign up with Yahoo.

Sign Up for a New Account

This will lead you the Yahoo login in page where you will be requested to fill a form with personal details including your name, gender and birthday. You will also need to choose a unique user name and password. As well as giving your own mobile number, you will be asked to supply that of someone close to you as well.

Type the code shown and submit the code. If you can’t read the doc then click on Try a New Code to get one that’s clearer. NOTE: For some reason best known to Yahoo they sometimes provide a moving code that flies around in the box. It’s quite hard to read. Also you may find that the code does not get accepted the first time. Keep trying and eventually it will be accepted.

Privacy at Yahoo

To ensure you keep your Yahoo login details and therefore your account private, be sure you don’t share your password. If you want to be sure about the safety of your personal information, read Yahoo’s privacy policy before you sign up.

Always uncheck the ‘keep me logged in’ checkbox on the Yahoo.com login when logging on through a shared computer.

What you Get

Once you’ve set your Yahoo account, you will be able to access several services. First and foremost you will have a free email account with a storage space of up to 1 TB. Your Yahoo mail login details are the same as for your global Yahoo account. At www.yahoo.com you will see the email button next to the Sign In button. Click on it to go directly to your Yahoo.com email.

If you have friends who are online when you log in, you can chat with them in real-time using the Yahoo Yahoo MessengerMessenger. Your Yahoo email account can also be used as a place to store contacts.

If they are on Gmail or Facebook, you can synch them to your Yahoo account. You will also have a Newsfeed at your disposal through which you can keep up with the latest news on topics that interest you.

Speaking of social media, you can use your Yahoo mail login to create accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other platforms.

Countries Where You Can Use Yahoo

You can login in to your Yahoo homepage from virtually anywhere on the planet where you can access the Internet. Even in China where access to the World Wide Web has been barricaded by the government, people have found a way of circumventing the virtual barbed wire via Virtual Private Networks.

The availability of an app that runs on all mobile platforms ensures that you can login using your mobile phone or tablet from anywhere.

Regional Tip: Unlike other mail service providers, Yahoo has not invested in making region-specific tools. But its search tool has region-specific filters which users can apply to refine results.

Yahoo App for Android Tablets and Mobile Phones

Yahoo offers apps for all the services it offers from mail to news to picture-sharing platform Flickr. This means that as long as your data is paid up or you’re in a place with a WiFi hotspot, you can enjoy all Yahoo has to offer.

In 2015 Yahoo released an upgrade to its mobile mail app that is faster and lets the user switch between multiple accounts.Yahoo Login Key

The search tool better enables users to sift through the mail, and it also does away with entering passwords every time you wish to log in.

Security and Privacy Issues

Back in 2013, there were concerns when Yahoo announced that they intended to reassign email addresses that had been dormant for one year. After the move, some users said that they were able to access the mailboxes of previous owners.

Yahoo has taken some measures to help users protect their accounts including enforcing their privacy policy which, for instance, does not allow children below 13 years of age to have accounts.

They have also given users a link to a website with tips on how to avoid scams, secure their computers and protect kids online.

You can also take steps to ensure your account remains safe. Be sure never to share your password or write it down. Make it as hard as possible for anyone else to guess.
